Pete Batrowny, Managing Director EHS & Security; AES Corp.

Pete Batrowny is the managing director of environmental, health, safety and security at AES Corp. AES Corp. is a Fortune 200 global power company that provides affordable, sustainable energy to 17 countries through a diverse portfolio of distribution businesses, as well as thermal and renewable generation facilities. AES’ workforce of 21,000 people is committed to operational excellence and meeting the world’s changing power needs. AES Corp. is a member of the Campbell Institute at the National Safety Council.


Jillian Bernstein, Expert Services Manager; Enhesa

Jillian Bernstein works as an Expert Services Manager at Enhesa's Arlington, Virginia office. Her team is responsible for helping Enhesa's biggest clients manage their ongoing EHS regulatory compliance by providing Regulatory Compliance Verification audits, Regulatory Risk Gap Assessments, Applicability Screening Assistance and a suite of other services. Jillian previously worked as both an EHS Regulatory Consultant and Audit Manager/Auditor for Enhesa. Jillian received both a Juris Doctor degree and a Master's degree in Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School in 2013. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies from Binghamton University in 2010, where she concentrated on environmental policy and law. Jillian is licensed to practice law in New York.


Sam Chappell, Director & Co-Founder; Shirley Parsons

Sam is a founding director at Shirley Parsons – a global executive search, recruitment and staffing firm that specializes in the placement of EHS professionals. Sam spent a couple of years working from the company’s UK office, before moving to Boston in 2014 to set up the North American HQ. He has worked with clients across a variety of sectors to source candidates of all levels – from safety graduates to global directors and vice presidents – and is uniquely positioned to provide insight on the subject of EHS talent attraction.


Michelle Dolfi, Environmental Manager; NRG Energy Inc.

Michelle Dolfi is an Environmental Manager at NRG Energy, Inc. (NRG), a Fortune 200 Company and the leading integrated power company in the U.S., built on the strength of the nation's largest and most diverse competitive electric generation portfolio. Michelle has over 30 years of diversified electricity generation industry experience, during which her responsibilities have included multi-media permitting, project management, risk management, audit program management, site inspections and supporting internal initiatives.


Michelle’s core responsibilities include: managing the NRG environmental compliance program; supporting the use of environmental risk assessments; analyzing incident data for trends and developing improvement programs; and managing the TRI reporting program for the fleet. Prior to joining NRG, she worked eleven years at a coal fired power plant in Ohio as a plant engineer.


Michelle graduated from The University of Pittsburgh with a B.S in Mechanical Engineering and earned an MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business. She currently lives in northern Alabama.


Paul Gallagher, P.E., President; McCoy and Associates

Paul has extensive experience analyzing and interpreting environmental regulatory requirements. He has served McCoy for over twenty-eight years in various capacities from managing corporate operations to writing articles and editing journals to conducting seminars. Paul’s straight-forward speaking style simplifies the complex regulations, making them easier to understand. Prior to McCoy, Paul worked as a petroleum engineer for Union Pacific Resources, where he supervised oil and gas drilling and production operations. Paul lives in the mountain town of Conifer with his wife, Susan. Colorado is a perfect setting for their favorite pastimes, such as skiing, biking, and hiking.


Taylor Gelsinger, Research Analyst; NAEM

Taylor Gelsinger has been with NAEM since 2013. She executes NAEM's research program, specializing in a range of EHS and sustainability topics, including: compliance, environmental information management systems, corporate responsibility reporting, materiality, metrics and professional development. Taylor graduated with a Master of Environmental Management degree in environmental economics and policy from Duke University and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Oklahoma State University.


Carloyn Hanson, Deputy Director; Environmental Council of the States (ECOS)

Carolyn Hanson is the Deputy Director at ECOS. She also supports the Cross Media Committee, Federal Facilities Forum, and ERIS. Before holding this position, she was a Senior Project Manager at ECOS working with the Waste Committee, the ECOS-DOD Sustainability Work Group, the Federal Facilities Forum, the Quicksilver Caucus, and the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC). She joined ECOS in September 2002 after working with the National Science Resources Center at the Smithsonian Institution to help develop an inquiry-based science curriculum. Prior to that she was a high school chemistry teacher in Asheville, North Carolina and Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Carolyn holds a B.S. in chemistry from Davidson College and a M.P.A. with a concentration in nonprofit management from George Mason University. She is originally from Florida.


Dennis Hu, Director EHS and SSE; Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp.

As Director of EHS and SSE, Dennis is responsible for all environmental, health, safety matters for Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. This includes regulatory compliance, occupational safety, permitting, emergency response, system safety engineering, EHS management systems and program development, sustainability, and external relationships.


Dennis has over 23 years of EHS and business experience and has used this background to help continue to drive program and process efficiency improvements in the aerospace industry. This includes a practical approach for risk-based management of issues with a focus on increasing EHS compliance and improving EHS culture while reducing operational costs. He has a proven track record of building and leading diverse and collaborative multi-functional teams to success while helping to establish the value proposition of EHS within the business.


Prior to joining Ball Aerospace, Dennis served in leadership roles in the consulting, chemical, and oil and gas industries working for multinational companies, both domestically and abroad, with a focus on helping companies solve complex EHS and regulatory issues.


Dennis has an MBA, with distinction, from New York University's Stern School of Business with specializations in Finance, Change Management and Social Impact and Innovation and a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and Public Policy from Washington University's School of Engineering and Applied Science in St. Louis, Missouri.


Dennis is active in numerous EHS professional organizations and currently serves on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Pollution Prevention Advisory Board, appointed by Governor John W. Hickenlooper. He also sits on the Executive External Advisory Panel of the Mountain and Plains Education and Research Center for Health, Work and Environment with the Colorado School of Public Health and serves as a board member for the Denver Ronald McDonald House Charities. Dennis has been a guest speaker at numerous professional and charitable events covering topics such as EHS leadership, managing organizational change, EHS culture, strategic planning, technical EHS issues and charitable giving.


John Novotny, Corporate Environmental Controls & Capital Project Management / Facilities Engineering; Corning Inc.

John F. Novotny joined Corning as director of Corporate Environmental Control and Capital Project Management, MT&E, in June 2016. Novotny is responsible for the oversight, strategic development, and management of Corning’s global environmental programs and activities. He also oversees capital project management and facilities engineering.


Prior to assuming his current position, Novotny was an executive-level environmental engineer for Arcadis, an engineering firm headquartered in the Netherlands, where he led environmental engineering, compliance, and health and safety for global clients. Previously, Novotny served as the global environmental, health, and safety manager for GE Transportation, a division of General Electric Company.


Novotny earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a licensed professional engineer in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, a board-certified environmental engineer through the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.


Steve Shedroff, Section Head, Global Innovations HS&E; Procter & Gamble Co.

Steve Shedroff is currently the Global Innovation HS&E Section Head for the Beauty Care business of The Procter & Gamble Company. He has been with P&G for 30 years working primarily in the Heath, Safety and Environment area. During 2000-2008 he worked in the Beauty Care Process Engineering group as the lead process Engineer for the Deodorant and Antiperspirant category. He has a Master of Science in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Purdue University, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a Certificate in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.


Dr. Terry Yosie, President & CEO; World Environment Center (WEC)

Terry F. Yosie has served as President & CEO of the World Environment Center (WEC) since October 2006. His major responsibilities include development and implementation of strategies to advance business solutions for sustainability challenges. During his tenure, WEC has developed core competencies in supply chain management, innovation and the preparation of the next generation of sustainability leaders. WEC's work in these areas have been recognized by the U.S. Department of State, United Nations Environmental Programme and many global stakeholders.


Dr. Yosie has held senior-level management positions in government, corporate and consulting organizations. He served as Vice President at the American Chemistry Council from 1999-2005, providing leadership to upgrade the chemical industry's environmental, health, safety and security performance. He managed a global CEO Task Force in 2004-2005 to develop the Responsible Care Global Charter to improve chemical industry performance in 52 countries. He represented the industry as a delegate to the 2002 U.N. World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.


As the Executive Vice President of Ruder Finn Washington from 1992-1999, Dr. Yosie led the environmental management and communications practices of the firm for a wide range of clients such as BASF, British Petroleum, Pfizer, and Philips Electronics. At BP, he advised the company on climate change issues that led to a new strategy announced in 1997 by then CEO John Browne.


Dr. Yosie served as Vice President for Health and Environment at the American Petroleum Institute from 1988-1992. In this capacity, he successfully led the industry's effort to negotiate cleaner fuel standards with EPA, state and local agencies and environmental organizations that impacted over $40 billion in refining investments. From 1978-1988, Dr. Yosie was employed at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Science Advisory Board where he also served as Director from 1981-1988, In this role, he advised EPA Administrators and the U.S. Congress on the scientific basis of public health and environmental decisions, and he instituted policies and procedures to improve the technical basis for EPA-wide policy decisions.. He served as a U.S. delegate for the bilateral environmental program with the Soviet Union and negotiated diverse agreements with that country.


Dr. Yosie is the author of more than seventy professional publications and co-editor of a book entitled, Sustainable Environmental Management. He has published numerous articles on sustainability strategy and management and has lectured at Carnegie Mellon University, Dartmouth College, Duke University, Harvard University and other institutions.


He received his doctorate degree from the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences of Carnegie Mellon University in 1981 and is the 2013 recipient of the University's Alumni Achievement Award.
